1. UNDP - Enhancing Access to Justice through the Lao Bar Association Project
The United Nations Development Programme in the Lao PDR has been supporting the LBA through the "Strengthening Access to Justice through the Lao Bar Association Project". Under Phase-I of the project numerous activities took place which led to the institutional strengthening of the LBA and the strengthening of capacity of its members. This enhanced access to justice for the poor and disadvantaged citizens of the Lao PDR.
Phase-II of the Project commenced in 2008 and will run for 3 years. Important components of the Phase-II Project are the legal aid programme, governance reform, access to justice survey, LBA admission and Continuous Legal Education Programs.
Documents in relation to the UNDP Project are available here.
2. The Asia Foundation
The LBA has been supported by The Asia Foundation on institutional and organizational issues.
In January 2008 the LBA and The Asia Foundation launched a new initiative called "Legal Aid and Legal Education in Laos: Improving Access to Justice for all Lao Citizens". As part of this project the LBA has opened two new legal aid clinics in Oudomxai and Champassak, and started initiatives including a mobile legal aid clinic and a Community Legal Educators program.
Part of the Public Legal Education Programme is also supported by The Asia Foundation. Please see here for more information on this programme. The goal of this programme is to increase access to legal information and services for the poor and vulnerable citizens of the Lao PDR.
